Abstract

This study was carried out at the Agricultural and Technologial Center in Paraguay (CETAPAR), located in the Yguazu District – Alto Parana (Paraguay). The objective was to determine the productivity of six forage sorghum cultivars and six grain sorghum cultivars, aiming to identify the most suitable materials for that ecological region. All cultivars were sown at the beginning of November 2002 and were harvested by february 2003. Among the forage sorghum cultivars, Volumax had the highest total (two cuts) yield (74.974 Kg/Ha) showing no statistical differences with the SX121 (70.574 Kg/Ha) and Facon (68.543 Kg/Ha) cultivars. Volumax was statistically different from the SX133, Talero and AG2005 materials which yielded 61.478; 47.957 and 42.059 kg/ha respectively. Among the grain sorghum cultivars Telen (30.048 kg/ha) had the highest yield; followed by the DA48 (27.786 kg/ha) and DA49 (25.571 kg/ha) cultivars. No statistical differences were detected among them. The cultivars Melincue (24.452 kg/ha), MSl (23.857 kg/ha) y M854 (23.595 kg/ha) were significantly inferior to Telen and DA48 showing no differences with DA49.

Resumen

El presente trabajo fue realizado en el Centro Tecnológico Agropecuario en Paraguay (CETAPAR) situado en el distrito de Yguazu - Alto Parana (Paraguay) y tuvo como objetivo determinar la productividad de seis cultivares de sorgo forrajero y seis cultivares de sorgo granífero, de manera a identificar aquellos materiales mejor adaptados a las condiciones ecológicas de la zona de estudio. Los materiales fueron sembrados a inicios de noviembre de 2002 y la cosecha realizada finales de febrero 2003. Entre los cultivares de sorgo forrajero el Volumax presentó la mayor producción de materia verde total (74.974 kg/ha) siendo estadísticamente similar a los cultivares SX121 (70.574 kg/ha) y Facón (68.543 kg/ha) y superior a los cultivares SX133, Talero y AG2005 con 61.478; 47.957 y 42.059 kg/ha respectivamente. Entre los cultivares de sorgo granífero, la mayor producción de materia verde correspondió al Telen (30.048 kg/ha) seguido del DA48 y DA49 con 27.786 y 25.571 kg/ha respectivamente, no habiendo diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre ellos. Los cultivares Melincue (24.452 kg/ha), MSl (23.857 kg/ha) y M854 (23.595 kg/ha) fueron estadísticamente inferiores al Telen y al DA48, no presentando diferencias con el DA49.
