Abstract During the agricultural year 2003/2004, was performed a test in the experimental field of the Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción, at the Campus in San Lorenzo, Paraguay, with the objective of determining the best spatial distribution between plants in order to maximize the yield of the cotton plant of the IAN 424 variety. The experimental design was a completely randomized with four rows distancing (0,30: 0,50; 0,70; 0,90) and four replications. This caused the plants population to decrease from 133.333 to 44.444 plants per hectare. The highest yield, as well as the major heights of the plants, were observed in the less dense populations. The total number of branches diminished as the distance between rows became shorter. |

Resumen En el año agrícola 2003/2004 fue realizado un ensayo en el campo experimental de la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias de la Universidad Nacional de Asunción, Campus de San Lorenzo, Paraguay. El objetivo fue determinar la mejor distribución espacial entre plantas que permita maximizar el rendimiento del algodonero, variedad IAN 424. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar con cuatro distanciamientos entre hileras (0,30; 0,50; 0,70 y 0,90 m) en cuatro repeticiones. Esto hizo variar las poblaciones de plantas de 44.444 a 133.333 plantas por hectárea. Fueron evaluados el rendimiento final de algodón en rama, la altura de las plantas y el número total de ramas. Los rendimientos más elevados así como las mayores alturas de plantas se observaron en las poblaciones menos densas, el número total de ramas fue disminuyendo a medida que las distancias entre hileras se fueron acortando. |
