Abstract The objectives of this work constitute the elaboration and analysis of maps of land use for the planning of forest activities. Cartography, remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems GIS were used to facilitate the analysis of information coming from LANDSAT TM 5 images, topographical letters and GPS, allowed the processing of data in the program Idrisi 2.0 for making the maps that facilitates the analysis of land use. The predominant categories found were the high prairies or natural fields, agricultural used and low prairies, being the smallest forest covering 25%. The study concludes that the municipality presents enough areas that can be used for forest activities as forests reservations, reforestation and to manage forests remainders with the purpose of obtaining values of forest covering in balance with other categories of land use. |

Resumen Los objetivos de este trabajo constituyen la elaboración y el análisis del mapa del uso de la tierra para la planificación de actividades forestales, para los cuales se utilizaron técnicas de cartografía, teledetección y SIG, que posibilitaron el análisis de informaciones provenientes de imágenes satelitales LANDSAT TM 5, cartas topográficas y GPS, permitiendo el procesamiento de datos en el programa Idrisi 2.0 para confección de mapas para el análisis del uso de la tierra. Se distinguió que las categorías predominantes eran las praderas altas o campos naturales, uso agropecuario y praderas bajas o bañados, siendo la cobertura forestal menor al 25%. Se concluyó que el municipio presenta un porcentaje de áreas que pueden utilizarse para actividades forestales sea como reservas de bosques, reforestación y manejo de bosques remanentes con la finalidad de obtener valores de cobertura forestal en equilibrio con las demás categorías de uso de la tierra.
